Opal’s Walk Live

At 94 years old, Opal Lee is still determined to see Juneteenth made a national holiday.
By bringing awareness to Congress and the administration that the country needs and wants the unity that celebrating the abolition of slavery can bring, Ms. Opal is a voice of history with a message for the future. Many consider her the “Grandmother of Juneteenth.” But, if you ask her who she is, she will tell you she’s “just a little old lady in tennis shoes getting in everybody’s business.”
On Saturday, June 19 Ms. Opal Lee will walk and celebrate alongside her community in Fort Worth, Texas. She invites you to walk the 2.5 miles with her, from wherever you may be. Walk through your neighborhood, on a treadmill, at a local track, or wherever you can. Gather family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues to help spread the word.
