FREE Document Shredding & Identity Theft Protection Guidelines
Staff Reports
On Saturday, October 23 residents and small-business owners are invited to the public Shred Day/Secure Your ID Day as part of national Protect Your Identity Week. Residents and small businesses are encouraged to attend — take advantage of the opportunity to shred and properly dispose of sensitive documents.
Bring up to three boxes or bags (up to fifty pounds total) of documents with confidential information to be shredded and take home the tips and resources you need to help protect yourself.
Items to target for shredding include: old tax returns, pay stubs,
insurance information, outdated Medicare/Medicaid cards or documents,
medical receipts, credit card statements, credit reports, pre-approved
offers, bank statements, or contribution records.
Documents to be shredded should be removed from binders, but may
contain staples or paper clips. Please do not bring items that simply
need to be recycled. Come to the Executive Park parking lot (at College
and Charlotte Streets) in Asheville from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
