King Nominations Sought
December 9 deadline
The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Asheville and Buncombe County is inviting the public to submit nominees for the 2011 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Award and Youth Award, designed to honor individuals who have improved our society as a result of the work they have done; the youth award also helps identify role models for other students.
Residents of Asheville and surrounding areas who have contributed to our
community by providing services or leadership that has made life better
for others are eligible.
All nominees and the 2011 award winner will be recognized at the 31st
Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Prayer Breakfast at 8:30 a.m.
Saturday, January 14, 2012 at the Grove Park Inn. The recipient of the
2012 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Award will be eligible for a
$1,000 scholarship in pursuit of higher education.
The adult award will be honored during the Candlelight Service at 6 p.m.
Monday, January 16, 2012, at Nazareth First Baptist Church on Martin
Luther King, Jr. Dr. A formal presentation of the Youth Award will be
made during the Youth Celebration, at 4 p.m. Thursday, January 12, 2012
in Lipinsky Auditorium on the campus of UNC Asheville.
