Asheville Neighborhoods Invited to Participate in ‘Plan on a Page’
The City of Asheville has renewed its invitation to organized neighborhoods to participate in the City of Asheville’s upcoming Comprehensive Plan update.
While the City will host informational meetings and call for public input once the planning process begins, neighborhoods are urged to begin by using the “Plan on a Page” tool in the form of a Word® document.
Plan on a Page helps neighborhood groups organize to build community and develop consensus around priorities, while also preparing for involvement in the revisions of the Comprehensive Plan. It’s especially helpful for communities that have not yet developed a complete neighborhood plan, as it asks for information about a neighborhood such as a description, strengths, challenges, vision, etc. Once completed, neighborhood groups should submit the document to Neighborhood Services Coordinator Marsha Stickford online at [email protected].
To help neighborhoods with the Plan on a Page process, city planners will meet with neighborhood groups, to review draft plans or help them get started, at a drop-in session from 5 to 8 p.m. April 19 at the Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Center, 285 Livingston St.
“By offering an opportunity for a face-to-face discussion with a City planner, neighborhood leaders can get a better idea of how the Plan on a Page process works,” said Stickford.
The comprehensive plan is a community’s official document establishing policies for its long-range development. The first Asheville City Plan was prepared in 1925 by City Planner John Nolen; the most recent is the Asheville City Development Plan 2025, completed in 2003. Demographic changes and population growth of the past 13 years, as well as other challenges that will affect future development and sustainability, make it time to update the City’s long-range planning document.
