Delta Sigma Theta Book Club
The Delta Sigma Theta Book Club will hold its first book discussion on Sunday, January 10 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Delta House, 218 South French Broad Avenue in Asheville.
The book for discussion is Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates; Dr. Don Locke will be the facilitator.
Between the World and Me is a brief, unflinching address to his teenage son on race and police violence. Winner of the National Book Award for nonfiction, Coates’s book is well on its way to a lasting place in American letters. The National Book Foundation called it a “powerful indictment of racial politics in America.” Pulitzer Prize-winning author Toni Morrison said it was “required reading” and declared Coates the intellectual successor to James Baldwin.
The Delta Sigma Theta Book Club invites members of the community to gather and enjoy intellectual, cultural, and stimulating discussions in a spirit of fun, gratitude, and generosity.
Those attending are encouraged to read the work being discussed. The club will meet every three months and will focus on books on African American culture, history, politics, and empowerment in America and abroad. Books on other themes will also be considered.
