The new president and officers of the Asheville-Buncombe Branch #5363 of the NAACP, installed on October 3, 2015, are busy building infrastructure and re-energizing the Branch.

The regular meeting date is the second Tuesday of each month; so mark your calendar! The December meeting will be Tuesday, December 8, 2015 at 6:30 p.m. at our new meeting location at Hill Street Baptist Church, 135 Hill Street, in the Dr. N.M. Avery Multipurpose Building (the entry to the office is adjacent to the Hill Street Baptist Church sign).

Please come out and help us in the work of growing our Branch’s presence and membership. (NOTE: Construction at the new Isaac Dickson Elementary School has taken some of the parking, but there is still ample free parking.)

In the face of over 100 years of covert and overt racial hostility and violence, including murders and bombings, NAACP leaders and members have steadfastly and courageously used legal and moral persuasion to help effect fundamental change to our society.

Some may ask, “Is the NAACP for me? Is it still relevant?” This answer is a resounding YES to both questions! Until the issues of discrimination in employment, housing, access to credit, healthcare, education, voting, sexual identity, social status, environmental equity and the criminal justice systems are no longer problems for people of color and others, the NAACP is relevant.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has always been an inter-racial, multi-racial organization. Our founders were predominantly white. Our membership today is black, white, Asian, Hispanic, native American, straight, gay, those that are religious and spiritual and those that are not – moral, justice loving people of all races and colors. Any and all who share our values are welcome and encouraged to join as members and help with the fight for true equality under the law for ALL.

The struggle is far from over, there’s lot more to be done. This is not a moment it is a movement. Help us.

Forward together not one step back!
