Countdown to Get Covered

Health Care Tour BusBus Tour to Roll Through Western North Carolina

On Tuesday, February 3, the “Countdown to Get Covered” bus will roll into Asheville to highlight the final weeks of open enrollment under the Affordable Care Act.

The bus, carrying Get Covered America’s President Anne Filipic, is stopping in Asheville to showcase enrollment resources and meet Western North Carolina in-person assistors at an enrollment event at the Dr. Wesley Grant Southside Center on Tuesday, February 3.

Local elected officials are also expected to give remarks to WNC in-person assistors—  Pisgah Legal Services, Council on Aging of Buncombe County, Western North Carolina Community Health Services (WNCCHS), Western Carolina Medical Society, Legal Aid of North Carolina (Sylva office), Mountain Projects, Inc., and Blue Ridge Community Health Services— volunteers and consumers during the breakfast event.

The Dr. Wesley Grant Southside Center stop is part of a weeklong, multi-state bus tour to showcase enrollment resources in communities across the South. The tour – featuring a brightly-painted bus counting down the number of days left to enroll in health coverage — will make stops at enrollment events, volunteer phone banks, churches, hospitals, and college campuses, to raise awareness of the financial assistance and quality insurance available through the Health Insurance Marketplace.

Filipic and staff, will tour alongside elected officials, faith leaders, community partners, consumers, organizers, and volunteers, as the “Countdown to Get Covered” bus stops in over a dozen key cities throughout North Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.

The Asheville stop kicks off the North Carolina leg of the multi-state tour. It will next head to Winston-Salem for a Latino enrollment event and then Greensboro. It will travel to Raleigh before making the last North Carolina stop in Charlotte.
