Lupus Foundation of America, North Carolina Chapter

do-i-have-lupusMonthly support group in Buncombe County.

The Lupus Foundation of America, North Carolina Chapter (LFANC) will host its monthly meeting for those living with lupus, their family and caregivers on Wednesday, September 14 from 7 to 8 p.m. in the CE Room at All Souls Cathedral, 9 Swan Street in Biltmore Village.

LFANC provides information about lupus and gives participants an opportunity to share their experiences with others. LFA encourages and supports positive coping strategies and emphasizes the importance of medical treatment. Programs range from guest speakers to DVD presentations and open group discussion.

Lupus is an unpredictable and misunderstood autoimmune disease that ravages different parts of the body. It is difficult to diagnose, in part because it has a range of symptoms ranging from a skin rash to a heart attack. Debilitating and destructive, lupus can be fatal: it often appears out of nowhere there is no known cause and no known cure. An estimated 45,000 North Carolina residents and 1.5 million Americans are estimated to have a form of lupus, yet research remains underfunded relative to its scope and devastation.

The Lupus Foundation of America is devoted to solving the mystery of lupus while providing caring support to those who suffer from its brutal impact.

The local group meets on the second Wednesday of each month. There is no charge to attend, and drop-ins are welcome. For more information, contact the LFANC at [email protected] or at 877-849-8271, ext. 1 or visit www.lupusnc.org. For the latest news and updates, follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
