Because last year’s election of Branch officers did not happen in an even year, and in order to get back on the cycle mandated by the NAACP Constitution and By-Laws, the Asheville-Buncombe Branch NAACP is mandated to have an election this year.

The Nominating Committee has been formed. At the October meeting its report will include the names of people running for office in November. In addition, at the October meeting, nominations from the floor will be received.

Any person running for an executive office must be a member in good standing since April 1, 2016. All persons planning to vote in the November meeting must be members in good standing for at least 30 days prior to the election. If a membership has expired, or will expire by October 31, it can be renewed by contacting the Membership Chair at queenmorris67@gmail.com.

Community Police Working Group: As a member of the Racial Justice Coalition, and tasked by the Public Safety Committee of City Council, the local NAACP president and other community groups continue the work of reviewing the use-of-force/de-escalation policies of the Asheville Police Department.

Register to Vote: The last day to register to vote before Early Voting starts is October 14, 2016. Same-Day Registration begins when Early Voting starts on October 20 and continues through November 5. Please be sure to early vote! Early voting locations and hours are on page 6 of this issue, or check them online at https://goo.gl/MLqaHw.

The General Election is on Tuesday, November 8. If you have questions about voting go to www.ncvoter.org/voting-in-nc.
