by Chuck & Elaine Beattie –
Yes! You heard correctly, I am in seminary.
I entered the Candler School of Theology at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, in August 2016 as a Master of Divinity candidate with the class of 2019. I will complete my studies in May 2019. In addition to my M.Div. degree, I will become a certified chaplain and will focus on Black Church Studies.
My wife, Elaine Robinson Beattie, will be studying in the Masters of Religious Leadership program and will enroll in Candler this fall. She will focus on learning more about ways to better support and serve leaders in our faith communities. Her program also will end in May 2019, so we will graduate together.
Many of you may recall that I was ordained in May 2016 at Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Asheville. That seems such a long time ago. I am now taking classes in Pastoral Care, History of the Church, Old Testament with a little Hebrew sprinkled in, and serving as a Chaplain Intern to approximately 65 residents at Campbell-Stone, a Senior Living facility at Sandy Springs, Georgia.
I look forward to visiting my friends in Asheville as often as possible.
May God richly bless each one of you!
