The Asheville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has announced its newest members, Ruafika Cobb, Shelia Edwards, Antanette Mosley, Sherry Whitesides Poole, and Kidada Wynn.
Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was incorporated in 1930, though it had been born nearly 20 years before by 22 female students at Howard University in Washington, D.C.
On January 13, 1913, the sorority was founded as a means for the women to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to those in need. In March of that same year, the Founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. performed their first public act by participating in the Women’s Suffrage March in Washington, D.C.
Each of the new members will join a century-long heritage of service and learning.
