Alumni of all graduating classes of Stephens-Lee High School gathered July 4-6 at the school’s gymnasium for a weekend of fellowship, memories, and fun.

In conjunction with the all-school celebration, the class of 1954 celebrated its 60th class reunion.

The weekend began with a memorial service at Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church, held in memory of deceased educators and students. Nazareth is pastored by Rev. Dr. Charles R. Mosley, Class of 1957. The service was followed by a class “meet-and-greet” at the Stephens-Lee Gymnasium Community Center.

On Saturday, July 5, the alumni enjoyed a luncheon at which they discussed scholarship fundraising; that evening, more members arrived to enjoy dinner and dancing. The reunion culminated with a Sunday afternoon picnic at the Stephens-Lee Gymnasium, the only remaining building from the campus known as the “Castle on the Hill.”

The earliest graduates on hand to celebrate were Lottie Bug and Ruby Jones of the Class of 1947, with honorable mention to Louis Rice, Class of 1948. Alumni traveled from as far away as Connecticut, Maryland, and Washington D.C., as well as North and South Carolina and Georgia.
