The City of Asheville, North Carolina is conducting a search to fill the newly created position of Equity and Inclusion Manager. This strategic and resourceful manager will operationalize a newly created function charged with transforming the way Asheville city government delivers services towards achieving equitable opportunities for all Asheville residents. The manager will be an integral part of a management team committed to providing excellent services to the entire Asheville community.
The recently established Equity and Inclusion function is a deliberate step toward advancing equity in Asheville, with racial and social equity as top priorities. As a city government, Asheville can serve a unique role toward maximizing the access and opportunities that all people have to satisfy essential needs, advance their well-being and achieve their full potential.
The Equity and Inclusion Manager position will play a key role in moving the city organization toward the successful advancement of equity within Asheville. The Equity and Inclusion Manager, hired by and reporting to the City Manager (with day to day supervision by an Assistant City Manager), is responsible for the City’s efforts to promote access, equity, inclusion and diversity through innovative policy, programs and services. As a senior level staff position within the City Manager’s Office, the Equity and Inclusion Manager will assist the City in identifying and addressing current and emerging access and equity issues and in developing relevant supports. This position will serve as a key liaison to the community and for community efforts focused on realizing an equitable Asheville.
The Equity Manager will initially focus on:
- Utilizing existing resources and community input to identify areas for immediate and meaningful action
- Assessing existing programs, services and initiatives that support equity and identify opportunities to maximize efforts and achievements.
- Fostering and maintaining collaboration and connections within the community, stakeholders and partners (such as Buncombe County, Asheville City Schools, WNC Diversity Engagement Coalition, etc.).
