The City of Asheville is offering a new program designed to assure a trip home for commuters who use alternative transportation and need a ride home due to an emergency. The Emergency Ride Home (ERH) program will eliminate the worry and potential hassle for those commuters by reimbursing the cost of a cab ride home.

Examples of emergencies include an immediate family member suffering from an illness or severe crisis, as well as unscheduled overtime work or a ridesharing driver who has to stay later or leave earlier than anticipated.

To
participate in the Emergency Ride Home program, employees must be 21 or
older, must pre-register, and must live and/or work in Buncombe County
or work for an ERH registered employer. In addition:

The Emergency
Ride Home program is made possible in part through the City of
Asheville’s TDM program and the North Carolina Department of
Transportation. The program promotes the increased use of alternative
transportation such as walking, cycling, public transit and carpooling.
