The Asheville Chapter of the Links has announced that two Asheville High School graduates, Ashley M. White and Nian W. Avery, have each been awarded $2,000 college scholarships.

Ashley, a member of the National Honor Society, developed the school’s World Changer Club, which focused efforts on service projects that helped other students. She is an all-around active student, played on the Asheville High basketball team, and is a ballet dancer. Ashley will be attending Appalachian State University in the Fall.

Nian Avery

In addition to performing on drums with the AHS band, Nian has contributed over 3000 hours of community service in and around Asheville. He has been a camp counselor at the YWCA and has volunteered as a dispatcher and delivered food for Meals on Wheels. He will be enrolled in the esteemed NCA&T—North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University—in Greensboro this fall.

The Urban News joins the Asheville chapter of The Links, Incorporated, in wishing these young people much success!
