How can we transform our educational system to help construct a compassionate and more livable future?

Seminar held Saturday, July 11, 2015, from 1:30 until 5 p.m. in A-B Tech’s Ferguson Auditorium, 340 Victoria Rd. in Asheville.

Personalizing Learning for a World in Transition

Presented by Dr. Kathleen Kesson, Long Island University, Brooklyn NY, this talk will focus on “personalized learning.” This student centered model allows for students to participate in the design of their own educational experiences with mentors in the school and community, as they carve their own pathways to high school graduation.

Education for Compassionate and Livable Futures

Presented by Dr. Marcus Bussey, U. of the Sunshine Coast, Australia. Bussey argues for the need for both educational and cultural changes that can create “the heart and head spaces that will enable both our communities and our civilization to establish preferable and livable pathways to our many futures.”

We All Have a Story

Presented by Acharya Ananda Devapriya, Gradinita Rasarit Kindergarten, Romania. Devapriya will examine how personal narratives can break down social barriers and increase empathy and respect for diversity. She will share the neohumanist educational practices developed and applied in the training of 100 kindergarten teachers in Bucharest, Romania.
