Marion King has a passion for sharing thoughtful sentiments with people she meets.

“Mickey,” as she is called, is a 1965 graduate of Stephens-Lee High School. “After graduation,” says Mickey, “my aspiration was to be the best wife and mother I could be!” She and her husband James raised eight children – and enjoyed every moment of it.

After the last of their children was old enough to be responsible, Mickey went to work for Magnavox, which for many years had a facility in Arden. When she retired, she took a part-time job with the Gannett Company, while helping to take care of her husband’s grandmother, who lived to be 108. Still not one to sit idle, Mickey now takes care of her “eighty-something” year old mother.

She also took up the hobby of crafting one-of-a-kind greeting cards.
“I’ve always enjoyed giving beautiful cards and enjoyed receiving them
too – but there was always that extra personal something missing!” said
Mickey.

As the word quickly spread about these one-of-a-kind beautiful
cards (and you can always spot them!), Mickey extended her line of
greeting and sentiment cards to include handcrafted fancy wedding
invitations, birth announcements, graduation, retirement, and other
special occasion cards.

On any given day you can catch Mickey in her crafting room
surrounded by colorful sheets of paper, moiré, silk and lace ribbons,
buttons and bows – designing her creations.

“Express Yourself” greeting cards can be found at Affordable
Treasures Art Gallery and other specialty shops in the Asheville area.
