New York, NY – Austin-born soul/pop guitarist/vocalist Jackie Venson has released “Flying” and announced an extensive tour with guitar legend Gary Clark Jr. ahead of her new EP, Transcends, due out November 3, 2017.
Her 2016 live album, Jackie Venson Live, received high praise from tastemakers, including Guitar Player, The Austin Chronicle, SheShreds, Austin Monthly, and Texas Monthly, as well as a cover story for Austin Woman Magazine and a spot on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Venson is upping her songwriting chops on the upcoming release that was produced by Michael Ramos (John Mellencamp, Los Lonely Boys, Paul Simon) and mixed by Boo Mitchell (John Mayer, Mark Ronson, Mississippi All Stars).
SheShreds declares: “Jackie Venson is one of the most talented up-and-coming blues guitarists of her generation. With a gorgeous singing voice, a guitar style that is both dynamic and technically precise, and music that blends genres, she is one to watch out for. She is set to release a live album this fall.”
Daughter of Austin music staple Andrew Venson, Jackie’s early drive for music led her to Boston’s Berklee College of Music, where she picked up a guitar for the first time. Inspired by blues, R&B and pop artists alike, Venson draws on diverse influences ranging from Buddy Guy to Sade to Alicia Keys.
In April of 2014, she was handpicked from over 2,000 entries by Southern retail chain Belk for its Belk Fashion Lounge concert series. Throughout the series’s five amphitheater performances, she supported famed country and southern icons Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, and James Taylor.
She released her debut The Light in Me in 2015 and Jackie Venson Live in 2016, wowing audiences throughout the US and Europe with her charming stage presence, virtuosic guitar skills and playful energy. Austin American-Statesman has praised Venson for her “superb musicianship and laid-back grace.”
Revered for her “willingness to stand naked lyrically and vocally” (Austin Chronicle), “few can put together the total package of eclectic, soulful jams and a stridently powerful voice the way that Jackie Venson can.” (Texas Monthly). The guitarist/songwriter will bring a fresh sound to Transcends and the upcoming tour with Gary Clark Jr. Stay tuned for the first single from the new EP and more exciting news.
