The Godfather of quartets, Spencer Taylor Jr. is a true legend in the quartet field and was honored with the Stellar Lifetime Achievement Award. He’s been leading the Highway QC’s since 1956.
Spencer Taylor Jr. always knew he could sing with the best. So when members of the gospel quintet the Highway QC’s asked the then-26-year-old Chicago postal clerk to join the group—which launched the careers of legendary singers Sam Cooke and Lou Rawls—he didn’t hesitate.
More than five decades later, Taylor, the lone vocalist who sang with the Chicago-based group’s founding members, hasn’t stopped traveling across the country to sing God’s praises.
“It’s a blessing to still be able to go out and rejoice and sing God’s praises on the road. When you really believe in God and his Word you want to do all you can to help inspire others on their journey of salvation,” emphasized the Indianola, Miss., native.
“If you truly love what you do, gospel singing comes from the heart. It becomes a ministry of God, encouragement and hope.”
The Highway QC’s perform live on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at 10 p.m. $10 at the door. The Double Crown, 375 Haywood Rd. in West Asheville.
