Dickens’ A Christmas Carol with Jeremy Webb at Diana Wortham Theatre

Dickens' A Christmas Carol - DWTThanksgiving is right around the corner, and you know what that means: family, friends, food, football, and fun. But before the leftover turkey has been transformed into sandwiches and soup, it’ll be time to get out of the house for a little break from it all. Diana Wortham Theatre has the respite you seek.

There is no better way to kick off the holiday season than with a classic – and we have just the ticket with Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, with three performances on Thanksgiving weekend, Friday and Saturday November 28 & 29.

But THIS production of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol is not your everyday holiday experience. Indeed, there are at least 30 reasons why you should see this one – and they are all because of ONE man: Atlantic Presenters Association’s 2014 Touring Performer of the Year, Jeremy Webb.

Asheville audiences will remember Webb as the remarkable character actor of Shakespeare on Trial — the show that brought down the house during two past Mainstage Seasons.

In an interview with DWT Mainstage Media Sponsor, creator Jeremy Webb shares how his re-envisioned version of the original A Christmas Carol makes this a must-see experience.

“Despite being a ‘one-man’ show, it’s not at all a one person endeavour,” says Webb. “It takes a team to get the show up each night.”

How is this a one-man show? Webb shares: “The comment that I love hearing – and that we get a lot – is that folks can’t believe they just watched a one-man show. The show is exhausting – it’s quite a mountain to climb! We cover the whole story, 30 characters, and I even get to play a couple of the ladies in the story: that’s a challenge, I can tell you!”

This innovative production includes puppets, music, and projections for A Christmas Carol like you have never seen before. Yes, there are puppets: The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. These creative additions, along with the visual projections – plus sound and light effects – all help to make Webb’s version of A Christmas Carol a full scale, family-friendly extravaganza that has been performed now almost 500 times across Canada and the United States.

“For me, the reward is the reaction of the kids and the families. We have a number of venues that book us each year and an audience that comes each year. There are some families I talk to after the show who have seen it every year! I have watched their kids grow up and head to university. Being a part of someone’s Christmas tradition is very cool.”
