Contestants Sought for the Heritage Alive! Mountain Youth Talent Contest

Catch the Spirit of Appalachia, Heritage Alive! will be showcasing youth up to the age of 18 during the Franklin Folk Festival on July 17 in downtown Franklin, NC. Participants must exhibit a talent that reflects the heritage and old Appalachian ways of our region. Categories include: Poetry/Storytelling; Vocal Performance by an individual or group – old-timey songs, old gospel songs, bluegrass, heritage tunes from the turn of the century; Instrumentalists; Dance – Clogging, Square Dance, Irish Folk Dance, Native American Dance.

Prizes for 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-place winners. Participants must register with Amy Ammons Garza, (828) 631-4587, by July 8, 2010. Entry forms are available at the Macon County Chamber of Commerce, and online at www.spiritofappalachia.org (click on Talent Contests).
